Making your home cat-friendly

Cats are territorial animals that actively explore their surroundings. A cat-friendly home offers vantage points, hiding spots, scratching opportunities and free access to desired rooms. With the right accessories you create an environment where your cat feels safe and stimulated.

Cat flaps

A cat flap gives your cat the freedom to decide when to go outside. Choose a flap based on the width of your cat (measure the shoulders) and the type of door or wall. Microchip cat flaps recognise your cat via its chip and keep unwanted visitors out. For large cats or Maine Coons there is an XL variant with a wider opening.

Window perches & radiator beds

Cats love warmth and a view. A window perch combines both and gives your cat a favourite resting spot without having to sacrifice a chair or sofa. Check the maximum weight capacity and the width of your windowsill. Radiator beds are ideal in winter, letting your cat enjoy the warmth without lying on the radiator itself.

Safety

For balconies and open windows, cat netting is essential, especially on higher floors. Choose UV-resistant, tear-proof nylon and secure the netting on all sides. A well-placed cat net is virtually invisible and protects your cat from falling without obstructing the view.

Frequently asked questions cat home accessories

What accessories does my cat need at home?
The basics: a litter box, food and water bowls, a scratching post, a sleeping spot, and toys. Nice additions: a cat flap, window perch, and catnip plants.
How do I stop my cat from scratching furniture?
Provide enough scratching posts near the furniture they scratch. Use double-sided tape or citrus spray on furniture to deter scratching. Reward your cat for using the scratching post.
Is a cat flap safe for my home?
Modern cat flaps with microchip recognition only open for your cat. They are well-insulated to prevent draughts. Choose a flap suitable for your door or wall thickness.
How many litter boxes do I need?
The rule of thumb: one litter box per cat plus one extra. So for 2 cats, provide 3 boxes. Place them in different, quiet locations.
