Which cat toy for which cat?
Different cats have different preferences. A varied selection keeps things interesting.
| Toy type | Ideal for | Play tip |
|---|---|---|
| Toy mice | All cats, especially kittens | Leave several mice around, cats love to "hunt" throughout the house |
| Jingle balls | Active cats & kittens | The sound stimulates the hunting instinct; great for independent play |
| Wand toy & feather teaser | Interactive play, all ages | Move unpredictably for maximum fun, the best interactive toy |
| Catnip toys | Cats from 6 months | About 70% of cats respond to catnip; safe and non-addictive |
| Food puzzle | Smart & calm cats | Stimulates mentally and slows down fast eaters; ideal for indoor cats |
| Cardboard scratcher | All cats | Combination of scratching and playing; often filled with catnip |
Toys by age
Your cat's needs change as they grow older. Match the toys to their life stage:
What is catnip and is it safe?
Catnip (Nepeta cataria) is a herb from the mint family that triggers a euphoric response in about 70% of cats: rolling, rubbing, jumping and playing. It is completely safe and non-addictive. The effect lasts 5 to 15 minutes, after which your cat becomes temporarily immune. Kittens under 6 months usually do not respond to catnip yet.
How much playtime does your cat need?
Cats need at least 15 to 30 minutes of active playtime daily, preferably spread over two or three short sessions. Interactive play with a wand toy or feather teaser is the most effective and also strengthens the bond with your cat. Supplement with independent toys your cat can use on their own.
Combine cat toys with a cat tree and bed
Create the perfect cat corner by combining toys with a sturdy cat tree and a comfortable cat bed. This way your cat has everything in one place: playing, scratching and resting. Rotate toys regularly to keep things interesting.
