Why an orthopaedic dog bed?

At Bopets we select orthopaedic dog beds for proven comfort: thick memory foam that does not flatten, removable covers you can simply toss in the washing machine, and anti-slip bases that keep the bed in place. Our collection includes the Fantail dog beds with 10 cm thick memory foam, as well as other brands in various price ranges. The pressure-relieving effect of an ergonomic dog bed supports joint health, not only for dogs with existing issues. Young, healthy dogs also benefit from pressure-distributing sleeping comfort, preventing joint problems from developing later. Discover below which bed suits your dog ↓

Everything about orthopaedic dog beds

Orthopaedic dog beds differ from regular beds through their filling: memory foam (also called viscoelastic foam) adapts to your dog's body shape. Unlike polyester filling, which quickly sags, memory foam retains its resilience and support for years.

Which dogs benefit from an orthopaedic dog bed?

Seniors
Older dogs (7+)

Seniors sleep up to 18 hours a day. Good support relieves stiffness and pain when getting up.

Joints
Dogs with arthritis or hip dysplasia

Pressure-distributing foam significantly reduces the load on affected joints.

Large breeds
Large and heavy dogs

Labrador, Belgian Shepherd and other large breeds put more pressure on their sleeping spot. Orthopaedic foam prevents pressure sores.

Recovery
Dogs after surgery

During recovery, a comfortable, supportive sleeping spot is essential for fast and healthy healing.

Prevention
Preventive for all dogs

Young dogs also sleep better and healthier on an orthopaedic base. Prevention is better than cure.

What to look for when choosing an orthopaedic dog bed?

Foam thickness: Choose at least 7 cm thick memory foam. Thinner foam offers insufficient support, especially for heavy dogs. Fantail beds use 10 cm thick foam, one of the thickest on the market.

Cover: A removable, washable cover is essential. Dogs shed, drool and bring dirt indoors. A cover you can toss in the machine keeps the bed hygienic.

Entry height: For dogs with joint problems, a bed with a lowered entry is recommended. The Fantail Snooze has a lowered front panel so your dog steps in and out effortlessly.

Anti-slip: Check that the base is anti-slip, so the bed does not slide on smooth floors.

Frequently asked questions about orthopaedic dog beds

What exactly is an orthopaedic dog bed?

An orthopaedic dog bed contains a core of memory foam that adapts to your dog's body. This distributes weight evenly and reduces pressure on joints, muscles and bones. It is comparable to an orthopaedic mattress for humans.

From what age does my dog need an orthopaedic bed?

There is no minimum age. Preventive use is beneficial at any age, but most owners switch around the age of 5 to 7, or earlier with large breeds. Does your dog have joint problems? Then switching is recommended immediately.

Can I wash the cover of an orthopaedic dog bed?

Yes, all orthopaedic beds we sell have a removable cover washable at 30 °C. With Fantail you can easily unzip the cover. We recommend washing the cover at least monthly.

What size orthopaedic bed for my dog?

The same rule as with regular beds: measure your dog from nose to tail base and add 15–20 cm. With orthopaedic beds it is extra important that your dog lies fully on the foam, so when in doubt choose one size larger.
